Thirsk and Sowerby
Thirsk is a wonderful North Yorkshire market town in the Vale of York and was home to the author James Herriot's veterinary practice. The surgery in Thirsk has now been converted into the 'World of James Herriot' where you can experience James Herriot's surgery.
Thirsk is a typical North Yorkshire market town with a cobbled market square. The town clock dominates the market square and many shops retain their original frontages.
The Cod Beck river flows through Thirsk and there are lots of ducks to feed by the water's edge. The racecourse holds several race meetings each year.
Sowerby adjoins Thirsk to the south. It has many unspoiled buildings, tucked away from the main route through Thirsk. It has lots of daffodils in the Spring, holds an annual Summer Fayre and Sowerby Flatts are a beautiful riverside walk along the Cod Beck.
