If you want top quality Yorkshire beer - some would say the Best in Britain - go to Masham (pronounced "Massum"). And at its best it is the best, for Masham is home to both Theakson's with its "Old Peculiar" bitter, and the latest brewing enterprise Black Sheep Brewery Bitter. Take a tour round the brewery, and afterwards idle away an hour or two beside the river Ure, amongst the daisies and the dandelions.
Masham has a very grand market square - one of the finest in North Yorkshire, and is set in a splendid position above the river Ure. Have you noticed how all the church clocks in the area are blue?
Try the ice cream in the market square in summer and at Christmas experience the Victorian market and join in the torchlight procession as the town joins together to sing carols.
