York is a medieval city with a wealth of history and has remains from the Roman and Viking ages. It has a unique atmosphere which captivates all who visit. There are many attractions with a historic theme, but also other varied attractions due to York's position as a railway city and strategic link to the North of England.

York is home to the largest Gothic cathedral in England, York Minster. It is truly spectacular and awe inspiring. York's streets have many ancient and timber-framed buildings allowing the visitor to immediately step back into the past.

The river Ouse flows through York, being a culmination of all the small streams and becks which have trickled from the hills of the Dales and Moors.

Small boats and pleasure craft make their way under York's bridges. Trips can be taken on several of the larger pleasure boats.
