Coxwold is an old village set back from a single road going down a long hill. At the top of the village there is a strange church with an octagonal shaped tower.

It's nice to stop here on the way to Byland Abbey, a spectacular and graceful ruin which is only two miles away.

Shandy Hall, which was the home of the author Laurence Stern and takes its name from his novel 'Tristam Shandy', stands at the top of the village.

Newburgh Priory is set just outside the village and has extensive grounds which are often open for viewing.
