Askrigg

Askrigg North Yorkshire

Surrounded by a carpet of greenery in the valley between two moors lies Askrigg. From a distance you can see the landmark of St Oswald's church tower nestled amongst the distinctive stone of the Yorkshire Dales.

Lying in the heart of Wensleydale, Askrigg has cobbled streets and a typically North Yorkshire rural charm.

The well loved television series 'All Creatures Great and Small' was filmed in Askrigg and the vet's surgery 'Skeldale House' is easily recognisable.

Askrigg is just off the  main Leyburn to Sedbergh road (A684) which runs on the other side of the river Ure. Turn off at Bainbridge to cross the bridge and get to Askrigg.

The nearest railway station is at Garsdale on the Carlisle to Leeds route. To plan your journey.

The 156 and 157 buses run from Bedale, Leyburn and Hawes. Bus times.

 

Walks in the area

There are lots of walks in the area.The river Ure is close by with footpaths alongside and you can explore the waterfalls above Askrigg on the Mill Gill Force and Whitfield Gill Force walk.
